3 million years ago, the first humans came to Earth. They had seeded the Earth with many plants and animals they liked, adding to the ones already here. They did this over thousands of our years, and now the time was right for colonization. For millennia, they lived here in peace and balance with nature. They prospered and grew and adapted to this new world, their old one long forgotten. Then the Thinkers came from a much different world. The Thinkers didn't understand the Naturalists, as their language and senses weren't the same. The Naturalists had evolved to feel the energy of life, to live in harmony with it, and each other. The Thinkers had hyperfocus, and deep, vibrant internal lives, and had developed a form of telepathy that allowed them to share complex thoughts and ideas with each other. The two types of culture and communication didn't mix, and they warred with each other over thousands of years. But some of them intermarried, making a new race that had no telepathy but an understanding of both complex thoughts and nature. Soon, both the Naturalists and the Thinkers were all dead and forgotten, and all that remained were the hybrids. Then the Multiples came. The Earth people didn't understand why these strange people seemed to change so much. They couldn't grasp that each person had several distinct personalities living in them, all the same person but all different. The personalities were in harmony with each other and complimented each other. The Multiples and the hybrids warred and fought over their differences for thousands of years, only occasionally intermarrying and interbreeding. Again, in the end, all that was left was the hybrids. And again with the Neanderthals, a race of humans with powerful bodies but a culture based on emotion. They were empaths, and communicated through complex emotional images. They were distrustful of these emotion blind natives that made strange mouth noises at them. Again there was war, but also an integration into the hybrid DNA. This happened half a dozen more times, each time the newcomers eventually dying out or just leaving the same way they had come, through the magic portals between the worlds. Each time there was a combining of traits. Until all that was left was us. The last war was a bitter one. The only people left alive were the children of both sides that were too young to fight. They had to take care of themselves and abandon any knowledge or skills that weren't immediately useful. Any advanced technology they had quickly wore out. Knowledge was lost and humanity had to start from scratch. Over the years, sometimes the DNA recombines into a person that is close to our ancestors, but still lacking the underlying abilities to make the traits work. We call these "disabilities" and label them as autism, or multiple personality disorder, or Down's Syndrome, or such like. But they are only disabilities in that they are different than "normal". They are actually closer to the people and abilities that we used to have, back before the many wars of humans. These people allow us glimpses of the pinnacle of our potential, if only we would see their strengths, rather than their weaknesses. But like our ancestors, all we can see is how different they are from the rest of us. But who knows what can happen in a few more millennia?
